THE PROBLEM
A quiet lakeside community in Alberta was in the dark about a growing problem. The residents of a North-West Calgary multi-unit residential building were frustrated with escalating service costs. Long outdated fixtures, were costly and difficult to maintain. Common areas of the building, such as the lobby and parkade were challenging to keep lit. They contacted Relight in seek of a solution.
THE SOLUTION
A thorough audit of the grounds was conducted by Relight. We began with a free on site energy assessment to identify the main sources of high energy consumption and maintenance costs. The largest source of energy usage and replacement costs was identified to be the fluorescent lighting in the parking lot. The parkade lighting accounted for 30% of the buildings’ common area energy consumption. The existing fluorescent lights were upgraded to energy efficient LEDs. With our commitment to quality, only high performance LED products were used and have 5 to 10 year replacement warranties with a 10-year life span.
THE RESULTS
Our client saved more than 84,000 kWh and 69,000 CO2 per year, or the equivalent energy to power 8 homes annually. That’s a savings of more than $12,400 in energy and service costs per year, and a project lifetime saving of more than $124,000. We also handled the rebate process on our clients’ behalf, reducing the cost of the retrofit by more than $3,900. LEARN MORE about Alberta rebates.
